Since our focus is on internet entrepreneurs and online business , I  constantly write on people who made it big in the online world.  And every post has been hit by huge crowds even days after it was published.

Time and again our brain is clean washed and we sit thinking hard about the next topic for our blog. Today is one such occasion and while I wandered the net desperately trying to get some leads , I came across this list of 100 topics to blog about from ‘Chris Brogan’. This person is having a hyperactive brain I admit.

He is so happy and interested to share his list with others. And it is no surprise that so many people stopped by to thank him. What does that indicate ? Yes , many are in the same boat. 

Look at some of the topics,  “Could I quit my day job” , “How I use my website”, “The internet application I haven’t seen”  these are some thoughts which flashes in our mind while we do our chores. But do we take note of them , sometimes yes and mostly not. Apart from the topics that are releavant to the theme of our blog , we could have used these as fillers when our brain went for a sound sleep.

So if you are my copassenger head on to the 100 blog topics I hope you write - Chrisbrogan.  Chris, this is my way of saying thanks to you. Good work mate.

Do you remember way back in June 07 I told you that I’ve signed up for PayPerPost. Do you know why? Here are some of the reasons

1. I want to  meet new bloggers

2. Make my blog popular

3. Bring additional crowd to my sponsors

4. Spread word about my advertisers 

5. Provide an unbiased review about services/ products to my readers and make them informed

I can see some suspicious look on your face that my primary intention is not listed yet. Ok,cool down, everyone knows about it . I signed up to earn money, it is quite obvious from the name “PayPerPost“. But I swear , all of the points listed above are also true.

Since my blog is more than 3 months (which is one of the criteria) I submitted my blog and got it approved today. I hope to take up opportunities which are related to my blog Hearty Surprise which aims to provide useful information to the Internet Entrepreneurs and all other people online.

I do understand brand power but does that mean your blog should have your name?  For each blog named after its owner , there and countless others with names related to the theme of the blog.  Some of the reasons for having a blog in your name is

1. The unique identity it gives to the blog

2. Visitors tend to bond quickly with the ‘real’ person

3. You name and face becomes a brand name and image

John Chow goes one step further and asks how many people select a name for their baby after checking if a url is available for that name !!!    That is how he decided the name for his child.

I agree it gives a good feeling to see your name on the url. But does it carry additional weight ? Do you tend to stick longer to a blog with the bloggers name than the one with generic name ? Do the blogs named after the blogger attract a bigger crowd ? Why not drop your views.

Sexy here does not relate to a beauty in bikini having a great sun tan in a Hawaiian beach. In this context it refers to attractive or beauty (if I can change the meaning of the word) . So why did I put the word sexy and not sleek in front. That is because, let me think… uhmmm …  sexy is more sexier.

Dressing up your blog. Does looks matter ?

Off late the number of blogs with a picture of a sleek car on top of their blog is on the rise(including some famous bloggers). Does it reflect the interest of the blogger or is it to capture the attention of people with similar taste ? Humans tend to relate easily with people who look appealing to them and have similar interest. Unless we are walking with our eyes shut, looks comes first and the everything else follows next.

I recently read that net surfers tend to stop by and spend additional time on the blogs that carry picture of a good looking girl/lady than those blogs that either carry a man’s photo or  nothing at all. It goes without saying that spending additional time on your blog translates to exploring more about your site, your articles and you in particular. These valuable extra seconds are crucial in transforming the casual passerby to a subscriber and eventually a business client depending on the objective of your website.

So does  men and mortals with no photos capture no traffic at all ? They do , but the ones above gains an extra edge. It is very similar to the situation when similar tasks are given to 2 sub-ordinates and both do not complete it, some  bosses has less grudge against the sub-ordinate who  has better looks than the one who do not posses that advantage. Note, I do not say about men / women boss and also the word ’some’ before ‘ bosses’ . Call it work place discrimination , unethical ,  imagination or what ever , but this is a reality which  many know but less voice out. It is not without reason that there are more women (good looking ofcourse) in commercials , even  in ads on men’s undergarment. Do you know what is women power ?

Did I digress? Ok , back on track again, so the point is, it does your website good to dress up a little, like a subtle makeup (beauty salons for the men are increasing), but do not go to the extent of hunting for a model  to get visitors(imagine a  male blogger putting up a picture of a women, eeks , I would think otherwise unless your blog relates to women or you have a lady’s name as your  pen blog name.

Do you then wonder why my picture is not the top of this page. I believe I am more appealing if left to your imagination than disappoint you with my photo. 

 But does look alone matter ?

Attractive pictures, good graphics , cute icons  all  give mileage only to a certain distance. Finally only those blogs/websites with contents relevant to the current needs of the people stays(like the energetic rabbit in the Duracell  battery ad. Well here is one ad without a human or a car !!!) and the most loyal visitors would leave for better pasteurs blogs unless you  intend to develop a relationship in a different angle. So now we understand why top bloggers remain on the top.

Here is a safe bet ,  how about picture of a male and female model on a  sleek car on top of your blog. Normal humans should be turned on atleast by one of the three.

But you step back when you think of the $$$ required. You are ready to spend your time and invest your knowledge but not the hard earned cash. Fair enough. Ever thought about your own blog ? Every Tom, Dick , Harry and his pet has a blog and why not you ?

Use a free blog hosting service and test water first See if the itch persists or vanishes without a trace. If it persists, then you are on your way to become the ‘Blog Guru’ (BG) and I’ll reach you to get advice.
