How Easy is a name change ? Not easy to let go off your original name if you have already branded quite well.  But when there are too many products and areas that we diversify, then we have to look for a name to tie all of the produts under one roof.

That is why ‘Payperpost’  just took on a new corporate name called ‘IZEA’ .Payperpost is not ‘the’ service but it forms one of the flagship product of IZEA which also comprises of  other produc/services such as Blogger’s Choice Awards, RockStartup, Zookoda and BlogInSpace.

So how Easy is IZEA ?

 I love to travel , yeah everybody does. Since I am in the Asia Pacific Region it is easier to travel to the neighbouring countries  for short holidays. That is how I ended up with my family in Hongkong for a weekend. 

People go to Hongkong for great food and good shopping.  Since I am a pure vegetarian non of the so called excellent food centres impressed me. And I shop only when required not travel to a place just to shop. Since we have to mark the must see places we took the effort to visit  the amusement park called “Ocean Place” though it was not in our original list.

This park which is built on both sides of a mountain and provides a variety of entertainment items like in many other parks such as the rides , dolphin and animal shows,aquarium and education items for the kids.They are all spread across  the 870,000 sq m of lowlands located in the bottom of the mountain and the head land or the top of the mountain. 

But the hightligh of them all is the 1.5 km ride in the cable car from the lowland to the mountain top and down again.  The mountain with well decorated park on one side and the South China sea on the other side and he we go in the smooth cable car.  This one ride alone is sure to justify the entrance fee we pay.

I love rollercoaster rides and this one comes packed with the extra punch due to the natural advantage of its location(on top of the mountain with the sea below) . I bet you will love it. You can spend a good one day travelling up , down and around. Travelling to Hongkong  ?  Take a day off at Ocean Park.

How many of us have had the courage to meddle and break open a new toy worth few hundred dollars with no guarantee to re-assemble into a working piece again.

While I wound’t dare into such an adventure, George Hotz not only did that but also succeeded to trade his re-organized toy for a few thousand dollars. It is been a week now since this teenage kid who spent his summer holidays in worthless persuit (in the opinion of others) made the headlines. 

George Hotz managed to break open the Apple’s  iphone which works exclusively with AT&T network and switch it to use other networks. While his buddies were occupied with the pleasures of the average teen age boys, our whiz kid was  soldering the pieces of the iphone and eventually hit the jackpot. The success was not gained overnight, it was a 500 hours of hard work. 

The Lesson

It is just not enough if we do something right (I don’t know the legal implications of this iphone experiment) but taking it to the market at the right time makes the difference between a money making successful accomplishment and just a successful accomplishment.  George tried listing through ebay but for reasons that did not materialize. But his blog and other internet sites helped to carry the news faster than the speed of light.

Now the iphone is traded for a Nissan 350Z and 3 more 8GB iphones + 2 consulting job offers. How much of your free time did you convert into cash and job?

Just a day back I wrote a post titled “Who Cares About Your Name ? ” with relevance to naming your blog.   I didn’t expect to find an interesting example so soon. 

Here is this Chinese Couple who tried to name thier child “@” .  For the culturally uninformed please note that Chinese attach a lot of importance to the sounds of words and they like to hear and see auspicious and good sounding words and symbols.

So this couple who was fascinated by the sound of “@” which sounds like “ai ta”, or “love him”.  For the time being we don’t know if the governement has permitted it or not. Actually the parents should have more say than the govt isn’t ?  Sorry this is no place to discuss politics.

Coming back to our topic, imagine how the website owned by this child will look like “@.com” , sounds extremely interesting. It would have been even more  fantastic if they had named their child before the advent of  emails. They could have patented this name/symbol and minted money from those zillion email id the world over.  Nobody dare use an email me@abc.com or iamxyz@mycompany.com if you haven’t paid royalty. This is a copyright protected symbol.

I guess John Chow should be happy to meet a counterpart who shares a unique passion in selecting baby names.

Now is the time to act quickly and grab a name symbol before someone snatches it.  My ultimate choice is ” : ) ” . The very sight of it is happiness and has no sexual , cultural , ethnic , regional , national , international and even universal barrier. OMG what a choice.   Just imagine when my child introduces himself/ herself as ” Hi , My name is :) “
